Sydney Weekend video
We grabbed a few friends, plugged in a few guitars and everyone had a ball! As Mike said, what else do you do with an old shearing shed?
Australian Traveller likes our view
It only took one image of Tor Cottage to entice Australian Traveller to feature it in The View on the coveted last page.
Bucolic – it sounds umm…
bucolic |byoõ’kälik|
adjective
of or relating to the pleasant aspects of the countryside and country life
ORIGIN early 16th cent. (denoting a pastoral poem): via Latin from Greek boukolikos, from boukolos ‘herdsman,’ from bous ‘ox.’
The Big Tree on the National Register of Big Trees
It was growing before white people came. It’s survived the early tree-cutters and farmers, bush fires, drought and hungry stock. It’s even survived the old sheep dip that was once nearby and the box tree growing underneath and through its canopy. And it will out-survive us, too I hope.
Our ‘thank you’ to Cliff who Cleans Up Australia
Cliff Hargreaves of the Sunshine Coast has well earned the title of Local Hero.
Our Brumby Guests
Until recently the wild horses in Australia’s national parks were culled. Nowadays a number of Brumby rescue organisations are capturing the horses in a humane way and then taking them to Brumby rescue reserves. These two beautiful fillies were born in the wild country of the Guy Fawkes National Park just east of Armidale.
Rainbow Delight
After storms raged over south east Queensland and the northern Tablelands, we at Anketell Forest were left with a stunning pair of rainbows. My trusty pentax took a few pics.
Winners! NSW Best Country Getaways Award
We are pretty chuffed with ourselves. We’ve only been open a bit over a year and already Tor Cottage has been awarded the title of Best Country Getaway in NSW by the national boutique accommodation booking site, Take A Break.
Theatre in the Wild ~ SMH review
Anketell Forest was featured on the coveted 3rd-to-last page in the Travel section of the Sydney Morning Herald on Sat 27th March, 2010. The journalist Craig was a friendly interesting fellow who really seemed to enjoy himself over the few days he was here.
Nature’s apartment blocks
There is no such thing as a useless tree in a forest. Habitat trees are vital for wildlife. I call them nature’s apartment blocks.
